<p><strong><em>Abstract</em></strong></p> <p><em>The public awareness of the negative effects of elopement marriages remains at an alarming level due to the high average number of such marriages each year. Some couples consider elopement marriages to have no issues, even to be religiously valid when they fulfill the requirements and conditions of marriage. However, the consequences of making elopement marriages an easy and quick solution to marital problems are unwise and contrary to the laws of the country and Islam. Therefore, this article discusses the adverse effects of elopement marriages on society. This study employs qualitative methods, and data were collected from reputable books, journal articles, and websites. Subsequently, the information was analyzed descriptively. The results of this study indicate that elopement marriages have numerous negative effects on society.</em></p> <p><em>&nbsp;</em></p> <p><em>Keywords: elopement marriage, law, consequences, legislation</em></p>
