Abstract

The custom is a rule of life, eliminote the bad and cause the good like the
saying 'hidup dikandung adat, mati dikandung tanah'. Accurate
understanding allows the individual to behate and adapt according to the
local comntunity. This will create harmony in society and dfficult to
break the rules that exist in the social sphere in the words of the parable,
'di mana bumi dipijak di situlah langit dtjunjwtg'. Negeri Sembilan often
synonymous with the habitual state. Connotation of the custom term
means disciplinary, polite, courteous, and do things in a systematic,
orderly and organized. Negeri Sembilan have adopted the Adat Perpatih
since 600 years ago. Adat Perpatih includes a complex, complete and
pure socio-cultural system. If practiced managed it can build a society
that is courteous, fair, prosperous and united. Based on the philosophy
and values contained therein, the Adat Perpatih can be very practical
and intellectual axis to guide the daily life of the community. Like the
words of perbilangan 'dianjaklayu, dicabut mati, gemuk berpupuk, segar
bersiram'. It means that customs will not befertile if not kept, treated and
tempered because it has spiritual values in the form of human flesh.
Therefore according to the ideas of One Malaysia introduced by
Malaysian.Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is hased on two
main thrilsts. The first core is the concept of acceptance as compared
v,ith the tolerance of the three trees of dffirent race, social justice and
National Principles and Constitution. The second core is the assimilation
of principle of unity and value aspiration. In accordance with the goals of
One Malaysia was to maintain and improve people's unity in diversity of Malaysia's rich cultural diversity which has always been the strength and
the best supply for the future, this paper will further focus on Adat
Perpatih practiced by the majority in Negeri Sembilan. However, as a
minority culture groups in the idea of One Malaysia many things have to
be explained so that it can be preserved, remains relevant, appropriate
and acceptable and can be applied in the life of the Malays in particular
and generally the whole multi-racial society in Malaysia. As the saying
'kata adat banyak kiasan, ditunjuk dia tetapi bukan, bergulwrg pendek
panjang direrutang, takfaham kalau tak direnungkan'.
